“BESEEN’s individualized tracks gave me the chance to really define what I wanted to work on, whether that was finding the best career/educational path for me, expanding my choreographic process, improving my improvisational and performance skills, or even self discovery. I entered the program knowing my long term goals in dance and life, and came out at the end of the year with a sustainable means of getting there.” - ALUM

“There is newfound freedom I've experienced when I don't stick to my habits, liberation that comes from expanding my choices and knowing the possibilities are endless, and bravery to break out of any and all cages (physical, mental, emotional, societal) in order to be authentic, unafraid, able to listen to and trust my intuition, and to be grounded in the practice of being seen. These are all things Catie and I worked on throughout the semester and that were included in my final project and that I now tap into everyday.” - ALUM
What Makes BESEEN Different:

-
From External Approval to Internal Knowing: Learn to use your technical foundation as a springboard for personal expression, not just precise execution. Most dance programs train you to execute steps, but don't teach you how to develop your own creative voice and make independent artistic choices.

-
Strategic Career Development Beyond Prescribed Paths: Explore the full spectrum of dance career possibilities, from entrepreneurship to touring to commercial work. University programs often prepare you for traditional pathways without addressing the reality that most successful dancers create hybrid careers that don't fit neat categories.

-
Individual Mentorship Within Supportive Community: Receive personalized guidance tailored to your specific artistic goals and career interests while building lasting relationships with like-minded peers. Even in smaller programs, individual attention is limited and rarely focuses on your unique artistic development needs.

-
Industry Introductions & Real-World Preparation: Connect directly with working dance professionals and gain honest insights about dance career realities, from budgeting to contributing to a choreographic process. Most programs have limited industry connections and don't prepare you for the business side of building a dance career.

"The best part of this journey for me is how much more confident I have become in my dancing and creative decisions." - ALUM

YES! BESEEN is meant to be a supplement to the education you are already receiving. On our DEEPEN track, we generally meet 4x a month - 2 hour long one-on-ones and 2 hour - hour and a half long collective sessions, sometimes with guest teachers + speakers. This totals out to about 4 hours a month. A lot of this work is meant to be applied to the dancing you are already doing in your studio or University classes! Collective Classes happen on the weekends, usually on a Saturday, sometimes on a Sunday!
If you are concerned about overcommitting yourself, the BALANCE track would be a great fit - it's still a step into our mentorship, but requires half the time with only 2 sessions a month.

All one-on-ones are made through Calendly - you can make it fit into your schedule. Our collective sessions are already in place - you can find those dates on our information sheet.

Great question! Everyone will arrive in NYC on Friday, April 10th. We will rehearse that Friday evening and Saturday - performances will be on Sunday, April 12th! You will be responsible for your accommodations and travel expenses. If this is not doable for you, we suggest looking into grants in your area for expanding educational experiences and/or youth in the arts.

Email Catie catieleasca@gmail.com to discuss options - we have a work study position available and one scholarship opportunity!

YES! Catie has found that the virtual setting often provides more comfort and vulnerability in the mentees' artistic pursuits! Plus, we get to do the work wherever we are, building a tight-knit community with artists you never would have the opportunity to meet otherwise, and then gather in person to solidify those connections and build a lasting bond with our new NYC performance!
